Tabitha watched him disappear inside, worrying her lower lip between her teeth. She was processing the fact that he went to the same school as her. Well, she could disappear in a crowd pretty easily. She usually spent most of her time ensconced in the the library alone. She didn't like being harassed by the crowds there. Surprise surprise. Life not liking crowds. But the crowds there were ones who liked to enact unnecessary violence.
She looks down at the ruined book in her hands, and tucks it into her purse. She'd take it home and see if her uncle could perhaps fix it up. He was a whiz at things like that. He'd fixed a lot of her things before.
Deciding upon that, she makes another attempt to smooth out her hair and turns away from the building. She really had no intention of following him, so she might as well head home and try to process everything that had just happened.

Tabitha gets all the way to the edge of the alley. There're a number of gangbangers just outside. They're lighting something on fire. The something appears to be a dead cat. Too bad for the diner. They're out some meat. So, Tabitha gets all the way to the edge of the alley, and then:
"Hey! Wait!" Again, his voice, lifted, is a burnished thing -- it stays people, stays hearts, stays in the head and, yes, inspires violence. Violent emotion, violent reactions to placid things. But just now it also sounds a little anxious.
Aidan's standing outside the restaurant, his apron on and tied. He jumps off of the stairs, to the ground level, just so that he can say, if she turns, when she turns, please turn: "You don't blend in. I mean, you wouldn't. To me. Because you just. It wouldn't happen. In any life. You're, well. It wouldn't. Seeya. This life or the next!"
A laugh. And then he heads back inside, this time for good.
