Kuugun Ren was known to have many odd jobs, but the one he'd wanted the most was to be a teacher. Not just to help the delinquents of today, but because he'd never finished high school. He'd never had the chance to experience high school life like a person should, because he was always the troublemaker, always skipping classes and getting into trouble. And before he'd known it, he'd been expelled.
He'd always wanted to make up for the time missed. He'd wanted to spend the rest of his days living it up in school. And now he had a chance. The homeroom teacher of 2-C of Vegas High School had gotten killed in a car crash, and Ren was the type to jump on any given opportunity. He'd gone in and interviewed, only to be called trash by the Head Teacher. But it was because the school Director had developed a soft spot for him that he'd gotten the job.
Under one condition: He'd have his resignation letter on him at all times if he ever caused any trouble. Any trouble he couldn't get out of.
This time, he might have gone too far, but he was angry. Astounded by the idiocy and violence in children today. One of his students, a small and timid kid by the name of Gabriel Westin, had tried to kill himself by jumping off the roof of the school. Last night he'd been setting off fireworks in the school parking lot with the only three students of his class that could stand him, that realized he wasn't like every other adult, when he looked up to see Westin jump from the roof.
There had been no hesitation in the matter. Ren had run, jumped onto the roof of the car and caught the kid. Nearly getting squashed to death in the process. The head teacher's new Benz, well, that was completely ruined. But at least the kid was still alive.
And why had he tried to off himself? Because he was bullied by every student in the 2-C class. Bullied, and beat. Berated and threatened. He'd always been told that it would be better if he was dead, and his self-esteem was now nonexistent.
And today, even after Ren had yelled at the class about this, they were at it again. The three lead girls of the class: Miyabi, Victoria, and Rachael. They'd surrounded little Gabriel, had beat him, had said he should have died.
And Ren was now teaching them a lesson....
"If you're gonna bully someone," he said, a strange glint in his eyes as he held Gabriel over the roof of the building. Holding him by his legs as the rest of his body hung over the edge of the roof with only Ren to support him. The kid was screaming, begging for help. Crying.
It made Ren feel bad, but this was a lesson to all the parties involved.
"You better make sure you're doing it right. You said you wanted him to die, Miyabi! Well, say the word and I'll do it! I'll drop him! Do you really want this kid to die?!"
The two girls flanking Miyabi's side were screaming themselves, begging him to stop. That they hadn't meant anything. They'd just been kidding. And Miyabi... she was horror-struck. Couldn't believe a teacher would have the balls to do such a thing.
And that was when he pulled Gabriel to safety, dropping him on the ground to catch his breath. But Ren gave Miyabi no chance to react before he had her in the same situation that Gabriel had just been in. And now she was the one screaming and begging and crying.
"DO you see what it's like to be bullied?" Ren yelled over the screams. "Is this really what you want to do to a person? How's it feel to be the victim?"
Quite a few more choice words, and he had her back on the ground, a disgusted glare on his face.
But while Miyabi had been terrified, she was angry as well. "Even my parents never scold me? Who do you think you are?! No one treats me this way!"
"I'm you're homeroom teacher," Ren said coldly. "And it's about time I teach you a lesson. Touch this kid again, and don't think I won't drop you from this roof."
Gabriel looked up at his teacher, realization dawning on his face, and grateful look in his eyes.
This thing is, Ren never bullied a person. Though he was strong, and one of the best fighters in Japan, he never used his strength without reason. But the kid needed to learn to stand up for himself. Ren couldn't be there all the time for him.
"Get outta here!" Ren shouted at the girls, who quickly scrambled away.
It was then that Ren went over the Gabriel and helped him up. "I won't always be here, kid," he said, "But I'll do my best. You need to learn to grow some backbone. You can't let idiots like that treat you this way. Come on, now, get to class or you'll be late."
It was when he was finally alone on the rooftop that Ren leaned back against the ledge, lighting a cigarette and tilting his head back to stare up into the clear sky. He'd probably get in loads of trouble for this, but so help him if his teaching was untraditional. The kids needed to learn their lessons. He knew from his own high school days of troublemaking.
