This happens somewhere else. Not New Salem. Not Las Vegas. Somewhere else. A normal, everyday high school. With normal, everyday students. And less-than-normal, less-than-everyday students. Some of those students are monsters. Some of those students shouldn't exist. Some of those students are dangerous fiends.
And some of those students are willing to help fight off the dangerous fiends. Even if it takes them to dark places. Some of those students are willing to keep a secret, even if the secret is morally suspect.
The taking of life.
At this normal, everyday high school is a teacher with coal-smolder eyes and dark sienna hair and skin the color of honey, an easy smile, an easy way with the students, very in control of herself, very faithful. She always wears a cross. Her name is Isobel Vasquez, and she has been watching her students carefully. She's noticed a few.
And one of them she's noticed is Portia Bane.

Portia is not a normal seventeen year old girl, sure as long as you... Shut your eyes and shove both fingers firmly in your ears she's normal...
Yes, she really isn't normal at all... Her voice sounds steelier, at close glance her body is rather muscular, her face is set, her eyes are rather unusually focused on some unseen goal and the school is still buzzing with rumours of how one of her brothers shakes every time he hears about the supernatural.
Portia already has her group of cling ons, but they don't know a thing about the real night and its real dangers and in truth they are rather annoying... But Portia has managed to shake them for today, for a meeting with a teacher that isn't detention but she's managed to convince nearly everybody that it is and not to hang around.
So now she is walking into one of the disused classrooms, eyes terribly set and a slight smile on her face "You wanted to see me Ms. Vasquez?"
And so it started.

"Yes. Sit down, Portia." Isobel pushes her chair -- it rolls -- away from her desk. Her legs are long, and she crosses them. There are plenty of seats near the teacher's desk for Portia to choose from. As the chair glides, Ms. Vasquez takes off a pair of glasses, the better to see you with, my dear. She studies Portia for a moment.
Oh yes. Now, now it really begins.
"You have a brother named Logan. Don't you?"

Portia finds a chair and sits, crossing her legs neatly and letting the bag drop down to the side of the chair, her eyes narrow for a moment and then she nods slightly "Yes, two brothers... Logan has been a little.... Unwell lately."
Scared, not completely unhinged but not quite recovered from his encounter with the witches... No matter, revenge was in the works as soon as she could get her hands on a good gun and a New Salem witch... Then she'd have her fun.
Her revenge, she's almost obsessed by it.

"What a shame," Isobel says, with all sincerity. "You see, I am aquainted with both of your brothers through a series of mutual friends; we worked together, you might say, up the shore... Before we get down to business, I wonder if you share their interests?"
Her smile is easy. Isobel isn't supernatural. Not even slightly. But she can read people quite well. And she scans for certain things: the weight of obsession times ruthlessness divided by morality.

Portia doesn't freeze, doesn't panic... Just looks at Isobel very calmly for a few moments and then shrugs "This would be about... Hunting?"
She is cautious after all, people tend to either look at you oddly or stiffen up when you outright say about being a witch hunter, they tend to think that you're crazy or want to run back to their covens and organise your... Removal from affairs.
And that would be quite inconvienient.

"Si," Isobel says, with an affirmative nod. "My father was quite a hunter himself. I am very interested. Not many women feel the call."
(( Hmm.... What subject should Iso teach? *can't...decide...* ))

Portia shrugged again, brushing away her hair "They're a danger Ms. I just really want to stop them from hurting anybody or thinking that they have the right to take over."
Of course they weren't all the reasons, but Portia wasn't going to say all of her reasons anyway.
(Maybe something to do with Religion?)

Hmm. A bit impulsive, Isobel notes, to herself. Very direct. That is Portia Bane in a nutshell. However, she reaches over to her desk drawer and pulls it out. Then she rummages within for her little jar of m&ms.
The lovely teacher offers some to Portia, while saying, raised eyebrow, full of warm humor, "I don't think the deer leave the forests often enough to take over. Yet, they do root through garbage... Should we begrudge them that?"

Portia can get a bit passionate about witch hunting... And sometimes jsut a tiny bit foolish... But to her credit she recovers fairly well by taking a M&M "Sorry Ms... I'm afraid my great grandfather was bitten by a deer and... Well, it got infected. My family have this joke that the deer are striving for world domination ever since, Sorry if I sounded odd."
Another smile, this one slightly more closed off.

But she recovers nicely.
Isobel regards Portia for a frank moment; then she offers the young girl a smile. The smile is a sharing-a-secret smile; it is conspiratoral. But it is at odds with her rather sober tone when she says: "Animal bites can be quite dangerous. You didn't sound odd."
Then Isobel says: "Enough. Do you believe in the supernatural, Portia?"

Portia nods and smiles "I know Ms. Especially from deer, they're usually so docile."
And then she just stares blankly for a moment before scowling slightly "I don't beleive in it, I know it's there Ms. and I know It's Dangerous..." Beat "I mean..."

"So you are telling me you don't believe in something that is dangerous. That is out there. Do you believe that what you believe can come to pass? That something so dangerous can be eliminated?"
The woman spoke evenly, quietly; she didn't look away from Portia. Judgement day was here, you see.

Portia's eyes narrow and then she nods "I believe that they're a threat, all of them... That they should be hunted down for our protection... I don't want future generations to have to fear them."
Scowl, Portia means business.

"Them. What do you mean, Portia? Please speak plainly: sorcerers, bruja, witches? Ghouls, vampires, zombies? Ghosts, shape-changers, skin-walkers? Spirits?"
Isobel isn't mocking Portia at all. The dark-eyed teacher is simply trying to ascertain Portia's area of interest -- and what areas she might interfere with. Some people, after all, when literally faced with a witch who's basically a normal person have qualms about eliminating them.
