Rhys stood in the crator of the place that used to be his home, lamenting the loss, and at the same time accepting the truth of the matter: it was time to go out of hiding anyway. It wasn't like he could hermit it up forever, but he still felt a pang of regret at the loss of his home for nearly a century.
It wasn't like he didn't know how to live in the busy city that was Las Vegas, it was just that he didn't really like it. And on top of everything else, all the Old Powers seemed to be rising. Which irritated him to no end. Not only were they teenagers, they appeared to be either caught in some sort of twitterpated fantasy with each other, or engaging in random carnal hobbies together. The whole thing was balderdash, if you asked him. The least they could do was branch out a little so that history didn't repeat itself.
The only bright spots in the dingy carpet that was the weaved destinies of the Old Powers was that Air and Earth were finally getting their chance. This change in and of itself was big enough to leave the Nightworld shaken forever, but add to it that they had caught the attention of one of the most powerful Originals in the country, things were sure to be interesting at the very least.
Some niggling little part of him whined that it was his duty to guide them, teach them. But things had happened. Changed. Things that the Creators had never even dreamed of. They were no longer the united front that they had been created to be. No, they were very much divided, and he couldn't find it in himself to pick who should receive the knowledge that would save their lives and who wouldn't.
So, he stood there in his thoughts, Rui's button up shirt hanging open in an attempt to cool down, feet bare.

Tabitha had spent a long evening amongst the latest Carnival attraction at the edge of the city. She'd played, danced, spent the hours enjoying the crowds and yet enjoying the company that she kept with herself. But too soon, the lights had faded, the rides shut down and all had gone home. All but her.
She had walked along the fences surrounding the carnival, along the dry desert, watching with mild interest as the tumbleweed blew across the land. It was as she walked, far into the Vegas desert, that she found a crater. Hmm. Her mind was quick to process that this was where Terra must have been when she'd let her powers get the best of her.
Shaking her head slightly, she dropped down into the crater, calmly looking around the scene and assessing if there was any danger. It was there that she found what must have been an underground home, and a man looking quite at loss amidst the destruction. She had the urge to sigh, thinking that Terra was too apt to throwing temper tantrums, never thinking her actions through, or the consequences of them. Or who would be affected. Some people just had no common sense.
Quietly she slipped around the debris, her movements making no noise as she stepped behind the man. There was a slight sense of familiarity to him, but she couldn't quite place it. Interesting. And quite handsome, too.
Leaning up on tiptoes, she moved in close enough so that when she spoke her lips were right by his ear, but yet not close enough that she would be noticed until she said, "Hi, there."

Rhys jumped, nearly gasping, before wheeling around to face the newcomer. Unfortunately, he miscalculated the distance between them, and didn't compensate for the fact that she was RIGHT behind him. This put them face to face in the large crater. Too shocked by the sudden appearance of Life, Rhys stayed still and silent. If he didn't move, she couldn't see him, right? Although their lips were very very close.
Why did these things always happen to him? Why couldn't he be left alone? Why did he insist on returning to places proven to draw the Old Powers? WHY HADN'T HE LEFT HIS SHIRT BUTTONED? Why did he find himself not caring?

The corner of Tabitha's lips quirked a bit in good humor, her eyes traveling down, enjoying the show. "I'd say I didn't mean to startle you, but there's really no need to tell such a lie," she said.
She didn't even bother to look back up just yet, just kept on smiling that maddening smile as she reached out and grabbed his hand. No permission necessary, thank you very much. She just took it, turned it palm up and started tracing the lines of his palm.
She made a slight humming noise, her smile dropping so she could bit her lower lip. Such an interesting life line. So long that it didn't begin to peter off until his wrist, and there is just blended with the circle that everyone had there. A never-ending life. A past that was quite familiar but she couldn't quite grasp it.
"I know you," she said slowly, still holding onto his hand, tracing lines. "At least, I imagine I must if you've had such a long life. All the rings here-" she circled a few that started just below his index finger, "Your life had to have started back in Elementis. And no sign of it ending, either."

Rhys thought he had been unmoving before, but when she began to discuss his life lines, he froze. Froze. She couldn't know. No, it was impossible. Once he realized this, he allowed himself to breathe. As odd as it was, he found himself wanting to let slip the secret he'd been keeping for all these years: his identity. But if he let that slip to her, the enchantment would be broken and they would all know again who he was.
But no, it probably wasn't a good idea. Not at -
"I am the Guardian." his voice was less than a whisper, but he felt it vibrate through the night. Well, there it was. Vita was always an unspoken weakness for him, and now it had finally bitten him in the ass. Elements curse him. A lot.

Tabitha's eyes glazed over for a long moment, her gaze distant the moment her stated who he was, the enchantment breaking. And once she remembered, a victorious smile spread across her face, her head tilting back to get another good, long look at him.
"That was some enchantment," she said. She moved her hand from his palm to play with the cuffs of his shirt. "To think I couldn't remember my favorite teacher. Your looks haven't changed a bit, but.... well...."
She made a slight gesture to say, some things hadn't stayed the same. He was more bitter. He'd been hurt. And she understood why he'd have changed, after loosing all those he'd had close. And most to their stupidity.
"But, for such an old man, you're still looking quite dashing." She nudged him in the chest with her shoulder, giving him a teasing look. And to herself, she muttered an old joke, "What I wouldn't give to be invisible..."

Rhys couldn't help the sly smile that spread his lips. Maybe not all the old powers were so bad. Forgetting for a moment the regret, the resentment, and the anger, he pulled snaked his arms around her back, pulling her close to him. Even after living so long, he still reveled in the feeling of life that he got from being near to her.
Perhaps they could spend some time catching up...The thought had barely crossed his mind when another figure appeared at the edge of the crater. He felt instinct telling him to push away, but he didn't. Why bother?
"I'm not quite sure that's a good idea, given your past but- IT'S PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME! Yes, yes, it's you, you and meeeeee!" cackling in a most disconcerting manner, the strange man, flung himself into the tunnel, landing on one hand in a creepy sort of way and proceeding to do a little dance.
Then he began repeating the word, "Harrow Harrow Harrow" over and over. Although this was not the only name he was known as.

Tabitha was very, very happy at this sudden chance to catch up on old times. She'd always been exceptionally fond of Rhys in the past life, though yes, she had loved Lucient too... But now, technically, she wasn't pledged to Lucient, nor was she in the past, so everything was okay. It was all in the technicalities.
But then.... it... came. The sudden crazy person hopping around and screaming at them. She stared for a long moment, her head shaking in dismay, and then her face flushed in anger at being disrupted during her happy time. She quickly extricated herself from Rhys' arms and drop-kicked it, knocking him out.
"Perhaps we should try this again, in another location.... away from that?" Tabitha said, tugging Rhys to her insistently. Life was really not a violent person, but get between her and a man, and well.... these things tend to happen.

Rhys gazed for a moment at...it..and then back at her, and then back at the unconscious man.
"I would very much like to." he said, holding out a hand for her to take so that they could...catch up. Knowing very well who it was who lay before them, he knew it wouldn't be so bad to leave him there.

Tabitha smiled, dragging him off towards the long-shut-down carnival. "That's the best idea I've heard in centuries," she said as she peeled back an edge of broken fence and led him towards the Fun House. She'd always been the one with interesting ideas and places when it came to 'catching up'. This attraction was sure to be fun, all the nice mirrors and such. And sure it was, they had a long night of fun. It was nice to have an old companion to spend her time with again.
