A long day, and an even longer night was spent bonding with Rhys, but in the end there had been a tension that even Tabitha could not push out of her mind. She had to speak to Light, had to somehow work things out. She wasn't quite sure what she wanted to work out, but she couldn't leave things as they were.
Well, she knew what she wanted.... but things like that rarely worked out.
So, she'd spent the next day searching out his aura amongst the dense population of Vegas. Hours of search, exhausted, she'd finally found him tucked away in one of the shopping centers. She'd watched him for a while shopping, trying to find the best time to pull him aside without causing a scene. He'd had so many admirers following him around that she'd easily gone unnoticed, but that also meant there wasn't a moment to get him alone. And then she'd found her chance.
He'd gone into a fitting room.
Smiling softly to herself, she edged into the back where the men's fitting rooms were. She'd never been happier that she blended in so well. Nobody noticed her, so she could quietly slip into his fitting room while he had his back turned. No one was the wiser, including Light.
She really did need to learn his current name at some point. But then again, she could just continue to refer to him as Lucient. Heh.
Sneaking up behind him, she rested her chin on his shoulder and said, "Hello, Sunshine."

The interesting thing about Life following him around all day was that he'd been watching her through every reflective surface that was near. Which in Vegas was a lot. Watching her didn't mean that he'd forgiven her, just that he'd slipped into a dressing room so that he could confront her and make her go away. He'd already realized the error he'd made in searching for companionship. Especially with her.
At her arrival, he turned, letting a smooth smile slide over his face like honey on a warm day - hot as an overheated engine, cool as aloe vera on a sun burn. The real kind. His eyes were like warm liquor as he regarded her.
"Interesting that you should bother with me," he said silkily, not bothering to shield her from his natural charm, "As far as I knew, you had Rhys to keep you occupied." Not that Rhys really even cared what she did in her free time. That's where they were drastically different. Rhys had been caring once, possessive of that which was his. But after he was forced to withdraw from their world, watch Vita pair off with Ares, things changed. Now he seemed to be indifferent.
If only Jay could be that lucky.
But he was lucky in a different way. Because just as he could make people love him, and make himself love people, he could shut down the emotions where some people were concerned. It was one of the skills that he'd always possessed that made him rather scary sometimes. It was an interesting thing, he imagined, being inexplicably drawn to someone who seemed to be completely emotionless toward you.
So, it was with this power beginning that he gazed at her, the warmth draining from his eyes to reveal a different type of warmth. More like the warmth that you feel right before you freeze to death.

Tabitha pursed her lips, leaning back against the door with her arms crossed over her chest. She could see the fading of emotion in his eyes, and she'd be an idiot if that didn't scare her a bit. But she wasn't going to just back down.
"I hadn't realized I was doing anything wrong, Lucient," she said slowly. She was trying to be understanding of this, but logic was her downfall. "I hadn't realized I was supposed to wait around for you for all of my lifetimes. I put my number in your pocket, waited for a call, and nothing. I thought you were uninterested, and yes, Rhys and I have a history. I can't just push that aside. I love him, too." And by saying that, it was stating that she loved Light, but she hadn't realized her slip. "He was my closest friend, my companion. He was all I had when I forced myself to keep my other feelings in check. He will always remain the same to me. I can't stop that. But... I..."
She trailed off, unsure of how to word exactly how she was feeling. She could see this was most likely pointless. But to be at loss for the words, was something new. Life, always knew what to say, she was never unsure of herself. But as it was in the past, she never seemed able to remain confident around Light.
And Rhys.... To choose between the two, she didn't know how she could do it. She loved both of them, and both for different reasons. When she'd paired with Ares, and had to leave Rhys, it had been the hardest time of her life. All because of one drunken night, and a stupid mistake, she'd been bound to a man she hated. It was no excuse, she knew. She chose to drink so much that she wouldn't remember her surroundings let alone her actions.
And as knowledgable as Life could be, she made many mistakes. Often big ones. Rhys. Lucient. They were her biggest faults. And her greatest weaknesses.

"I don't remember any phone numbers in my coat." Jay said, determined to hold on to his forced emotionless state. The problem with it was that you really had to want to stay that way, and being as distracted as he was, he didn't know how much longer he could keep it up. The part of his mind that was currently in control did not notice the slip. And it didn't make a huge difference either way. Too meant also which meant as well as which mean there was another person and that was just wholly unacceptable. He did not share well. At all.
"I think it's time for me to leave," he said picking up a few choice items and heading the two feet toward the door which she was currently blocking. Instead of telling her to move, he just stood there staring blankly at her. Waiting for her to just get out of the way.

Tabitha didn't budge an inch. She refused to move, stubborn as she was. Tilting her head back to look him square in the eye, refusing to be scared away because of him trying to be emotionless, she said, "I put it there on the taxi ride. But silly me, I was stupid to think the great, and well-admired Light could be bothered with someone so plain."
With that, she scooted out of his way and perched on the small bench in the corner. If he wanted to leave so bad, then who was she to stop him. She'd spent so long holding her feelings for him back, trying not to get in the way of his life, and was hard-pressed to break out of that habit. What was another life spent repressing things?

In the reading of a story, this is the point where the male character would stop and turn around, tell the female character how he really felt and then be very tender blah blah blah. Well this is not one of those stories, and though Jay wanted to tell her she wasn't plain, that would involve staying around her longer than he intended, so instead he made an arrogant, "Pah!" and walked out, leaving her there. Which was a very un-happy-romance-story thing of him to do.
The nerve of her. How easy it would be to just believe what she said, go along with it. Be ignorantly happy. Nope, he wasn't going to do it. No. So instead, he headed toward the only place that he might find some comfort: Axed.
