Even originals need a night off occasionally, and Fern's night off is tonight.
She's sitting at the bar in a rather low cut red dress, looking fairly nice adn smiling contentedly at her drink... It's getting late and so quite a few couples have stumbled off together and so only Fern and a few other Nightworlders are left over the club...
But hark! she feels eyes on her back, who could they belong to...?

The gaze Fern feels on her back could belong to Adam Thorne. Ah, Adam Thorne. Adam, of the immortal Thornes; he, with the rakishly dark-as-honey blonde hair; he with the gambler's reckless smile; the sort've smile that creased his skin; a joker's smile.
He wasn't particularly daylighty; in fact, one might say he had a distinct prediliction for the darker side of life; for that which was dark. The Black Dahlia was not his usual stomping ground, but he'd hoped to see someones who never showed. That wasn't the sort've thing that stopped Adam from enjoying himself, and he didn't have a deep loathing for the brighter side of the Night World -- just your average, run-of-the-mill contempt. He'd challenged a couple to a game of cards, and they'd just abandoned the table, so he was all alone, a half-empty glass of somethin' at his side, nothin' to do, no one to do, just him and his losings. You couldn't win every time. Not even if you were Adam Thorne, the luckiest young Lamia this side of the Rockies. He really wasn't much older than he looked, which was about eighteen.
It was very possible his gaze, in the momentary lull as couples dispersed, as the music changed, fell on the pretty lady's nape. He could tell she wasn't just a pretty lady; in fact, he was musing over whether or not she was a made vampire or a lamia vampire, because there was something that wouldn't let him decide on either just yet.

Ah, the pitfalls of being an original... Technically Fern is both made (by the devil, not by a sire) and Lamia (One of the first four or so.... Though she's pretty sure their number now is only two... She can't find it in herself to be sad at that fact) and Originals are thus very hard for near Anybody to sense, even other originals have trouble occasionally (She remembers taking half of Maya's army out before the stubborn little miss would admit another immortal on the radar.)
Fern feels the faint nudging and lazily (and silently, it's unlikely that unless her prodder is at least over Five hundred that he will sense anything) reaches her mind out to his and scans it lazily... His sins are not too great, he is young and he has the marks of somebody rather handsome.
Fern smiles to herself, kicks down the thought of Nethiel and very calmly plants a compulsion deep beneath the level of any hearing (Well... Apart from Seth's and she sincerely hopes he isn't spying on her) maybe I should send her something, or at least see if she's more of a challenge.
She doubts that she will be heard, it's been years since she's been heard and she does hope this won't be teh end of a winning streak.

Adam's mind wasn't particularly difficult to influence. Not for Fern; he wasn't a human, but he wasn't anywhere near her level of power; he wasn't Power, plain and simple. He was your average run-of-the-mill vampire boy, maybe a little stronger than some, but for Fern? Easy as pie.
Which is why Adam sends Fern a paper airplane. Not a drink. Not a card. A paper airplane, made from a band flyer that just happened to be at his table, and sent -- with precision, with perfection -- gliding so that it swept over her shoulder and landed on the bar countertop just in front of her.
Unfolded, there's a message. The message is: Turn around.

A... A paper aeroplane, Fern can't help the few giggles that escape her as she reads the paper and reflects on it.
Usually they send flowers, or alcohol, or come over with a rakish grin... But a paper aeroplane? That's new, that's more promising of actual fun happening then a lot of her past suitors overtures have been... And it's only fair to repay the affection.
A few moments later the paper soars back to land in front of Adam with a neatly scrawled why? under the original statement.

He watches the airplane sail back to his table. They're precise creatures, vampires; even the whims of paper airplanes bow before. He unfolds the paper airplane, and smirks -- dark-edged, just a shade sinister. Then, tip of his tongue on his left canine, he scratches something out, writes another word, and sends the paper airplane saaaaailing back.
Her question mark has been scribbled out. Underneath it he wrote: (Why) Not?

A brief pause while Fern unfolds the sheet, sips at her drink for a few seconds, smiles slightly... And then the paper plane is soaring back, feel sorry for the poor exhausted thing, it doesn't even get overtime pay...
...
Anyway! Under the other scribbling is another note, this one saying: What will happen if I turn around? in tones that might be called slightly amused if they weren't just words on paper, for Fern is lazy... She might turn around eventually, she might not.
...SHe and Eris really have more in common then either will admit.

Adam chuckles after he reads her latest scribble. He puts the paper airplane down and then eyes Fern's back, thoughtfully. When he gets up, there's no sound; why would there be sound? He's one of the best of the young lamia; he's intimate on a close, personal level with darkness; he's fortune's favourite boy. He's a gambling man. He --
Yeah, he's quiet. He's quiet, and he's fast, and he's behind Fern; this won't surprise her terribly, because she's a lot older than he is; she'll hear him, maybe, or sense him. But what he says: "Do I look like I can see into the future? Oh." Beat. "Wait." Chuckle, again.
"You don't know; you haven't looked."

Fern hears him coming but pretends she doesn't, she can't trick him into thinking that she's a innocent little young vampire for long but she's running with this until the penny drops.
...Which probably isn't going to be long judging by the way she chuckles and smirks "I just do hate it terribly when people try to kidnap me..."
It's so terrible for them.

Adam quirks an eyebrow. His gaze leaves Fern's back, the line of her shoulder, to enmesh with the bartender's. The bartender is a witch named Yarrow, sea-mint eyes and an easy smile, but Yarrow isn't smiling now; Yarrow isn't quite sure why the latter nights have brought so many careless, callous vampires to her, but hey, look. At least with Adam she knows who to blame and he's not always quite so Adammish. Adam, in true Adammish form, grins at Yarrow, runs his hand over his face.
"Well," he says. "From what I can tell, you're hot; no doubt. Felony hot? I don't know about that. Anyway, I've never kidnapped a girl in my life, so you're safe from me, Sunny D. You enjoy that drink now."
He's a gambling man, Adam is -- at some point, you've just got to cut your losses. This might be that point.

"I very much doubt that you could, even if you wanted to" Fern says, flashing a cheerful smile at Yarrow, raising a eyebrow questioningly... It's clear Yarrow knows this guy and it's nice to have semi allies who know things jsut in case the very narrow chance comes up that Fern has to hurt things...
Which she might have to after the Sunny D comment, Fern's back tightens for a moment, her eyes flash into the full deep black Justice mode for a second and then she spins are in her chair, crosses her legs and flashes a brief smile (a brief glimpse of the legendary original fangs) "Please, I do despise nicknames... Call me Fern."
Or Julia, or Themis, or if you really want to cut to the chase Justice... But she's not quite mad enough for that long list yet.

Yarrow of the mint-sea eyes sort've smiles, just a little, at Fern's cheerful smile, even though Fern's cheerful little smile isn't particularly comforting, large fangs and all. Then starts scrubbing the bar down.
Meanwhile, Fern turns; crosses her legs. Adam, well, his gaze drops to her legs, because they're loooong, and then lifts back up to Fern's. He smiles, dark smile, dangerous in an innocent sort've way.
"Nice to see you, Fern. You are pretty cute. Gonna come out with me? This place is almost dead."

Fern stares with a expression a step off belief for a moment and then gives a odd little smile and rises neatly on those long, long legs... Fern was about 5'8 last time she checked, the ability to tower over many women and a few men comes in handy often.
"Well, I have nowhere else to go I suppose" Or nowhere important at least and she's in too much of a good mood to attempt to make Seth's life a misery or catch Nethiel in some sort of act.

"Well, well, well. Lucky me."
He smiles; the smile turns into an easy grin. He runs his fingers through his honey-dark hair, then offers Fern a hand up; he can play the gentleman, if he has to, and his parents are old, are ancient, are the ancients of days, as far as he's concerned. They have manners. Adam's pretty modern, but he has some, too.
"To think! tonight Fern supposes I'm a better option than nothing." His voice drops a level, all growl, all purr, "I'd hate to contemplate the alternative."
After which Adam, lucky bastard that he is, will usher Fern out of the Black Dahlia and into a night o' random chance and not exactly safe fun. Fun for him. Unless, of course, she backs out last minute. That's always an option. Adam doesn't force anybody.
'cause why should he?
