Name: Beatrix Crow
Age: 17
Zodiac Sign: ?
Species: Witch (Old Power)
Hair Color: Blonde.
Eye Color: Almost black.
Brief Look Description: The seventeen-year-old is numinous. Her hair, her skin, even her eyes are somehow luminous, although they’re actually really dark in hue. Light catches in her hair; light catches in her eyes; light falls on her like a lover famished for a kiss or the return of his heart. The effect is radiant, but not angelic – not on her.
Personality: Beatrix is a little bit fey insofar as her moods don’t seem to take one shape. You think you’ve got her figured out, and then she changes – no longer the cruel and smiling sensualist but instead the serious and disdainful idealist. The truth is Beatrix inclines toward gentleness and subtlety but she sometimes has a difficult time containing herself. Beatrix believes completely that balance is important, if not necessary. But she likes rivalries. A lot. And she also likes to play tricks.
Brief Bio: Beatrix doesn’t know when she was born. Beatrix suspects it was a long while ago, and something happened, and now she is where she is as if nothing ever did. Foster Care was Beatrix’s parent for the first eleven years of her life, and then she was adopted. The family who adopted Beatrix wasn’t actually full of abusive adopted brothers or fathers. They were – (are) – actually quite nice.
And they were also Night People who were delighted when they divined that Beatrix was (is) a ‘lost witch’, although they were less delighted when they found out how fascinated by vampires and cat shifters she was or how nonchalant she seemed about the whole Circle Midnight versus Circle Daybreak points-of-view.
Beatrix has had the dreams – the dreams about Dark and the other Old Powers out of fairytale. These aren’t dreams that she’s shared with anybody. Beatrix can be secretive. Very, very secretive. Very, very, very, very secretive.
In fact, she only remembers bits and pieces of her past life – although she knows she’ll remember more, or at least know more, once she finds the other Old Powers. If she’s been reincarnated, then no doubt the others have.
Bea honestly thinks that the whole “soulmate” thing is a crock. And Bea really likes unearthing old lore, things forgotten – sometimes things best left forgotten. Occasionally, there’s been trouble – actually, Beatrix is really good at trouble. It is one of her distinguishing qualities.
Social Connections: Valentine Crow (older brother)
Model: Alona Tal (for five pictures) and (yep!) Julia Stiles. For more.
Optional Information: Old Power – Dark. Her polar opposite, shockingly, Light, although she hasn’t seen so much as his shadow since reincarnation – well, that pretty much matches up with the others, too. Back In The Day, she was sympathetic to Fire, but thought Fire went a leetle bit overboard. At least, that’s what she remembers – and she probably empathized quite a bit with Water, too. Ironically, if anything? Dark probably tried to keep the peace – it was Light who tended to be blunt and see clearly about those kinds of things.
(Player Note: If any of y'all wanna hammer out "The Past" more than this just let me know if lightning/cool ideas strike -- )
Dark has powers over secret things, over shadows, over darkness and the sense of sight. She can talk to shadows and make them talk to her. She can command them to talk to her, actually, and tell her what she wants to know – but commanding them is a taxing thing and makes her tired. She can, with a great expenditure of effort, make a shadow rise up and fight for her. She can make somebody terrified of the dark, even if they know better. She can make somebody fascinated by the dark, certain that there’s something there, even if they know better. She can lull somebody into peace with a vision of the calm dark.
She can block somebody’s occult visions and enable them to sleep without dreams, although this sometimes gives her insomnia. She can ward off psychic attacks with this same ability, although this often makes the victim unconscious. She can turn herself into the shadow of a thing, although not for very long, and if the shadow of a thing starts to do very old vampire ninja moves it’s more likely that she’ll sort of coalesce into her flesh-and-blood shape just as if she’d stupidly chosen that moment to step out of their shadow.
She can use shadows to walk where it shouldn’t be possible to walk, like – shadows that trees cast on water. As long as nothing passes over the moon, she’d be able to balance on them just as if they were solid stone. She can, shockingly, make it dark – so dark that even those who are used to being able to see in the dark, who have spent their entire lives (or unlives) operating without ever knowing the kind of dark that humans know, aren’t able to see. She can take away somebody’s sight with a kiss, although she can’t touch the other senses.
And she can divine a secret just by looking at someone, give half a chance and maybe a moment or three, depending on what kind of person it is. Paradoxically, the deeper and the darker the secret, the easier a time she has finding it out – whether or not she wants to. This particular ability isn’t one that she controls very well. Sometimes it’s automatic. Sometimes it just refuses to kick in. And sometimes she gets so full of other people’s dark secrets that she forgets what she did for an entire day, sometimes she forgets something important of her own – and she knows she did, but she can’t stop it. Sometimes she gets so full up with people’s dark secrets that she feels as if she’s going mad, and then things get interesting.
And other things. Still secret, even from her. She has a line on forbidden/secret/dark spells, though.
