Lily blushed, and tried to shrug indifferently. But really, she was all abashed and embarrassed. "Kinda... yes... er... well, he's an Old Power, too. I'm not sure what to call him other than that. We're just... together."

Aw. She looked so cute abashed and embarrassed. Val smiled a little, and looked down at his lap. He was a nice guy, and he didn't really know her very well, so he wouldn't tease her any further.
Then he says: "Did he already know when you met him? Or are you both lost witches?"
Whether or not this other guy was really the incarnation of an Old Power -- well, like with Lily, Val was just going to reserve his judgment.

"He knew," Lily said, "He just didn't remember me... It's kind of... er... complicated. And odd. So... uh... yeah..."
Gosh, she felt like an idiot right now, unable to explain things properly.

"Complicated. And odd." Val paused. His expression took on a distinctly thoughtful cast; even distant. He ran his fingers back through his hair and then forward through his hair. Then he idly cracked his knuckles. "I believe you."
He smiled, then. "Hey, do you want to go get some breakfast? The sun's up, and I'm hungry."

Lily smiled, as always the friendly one and hopped to her feet. She'd told the vines to just chill at the fountain instead of her arm, and then took a moment to brush a stray leaf from her skirt. "Sure, I can always go for some eats," she said.

"Great," he said, enthusiastic as he bent to the task of cleaning up his busking station. Tousled owlish brown hair flopped into his eyes and curled at the bridge of his nose when he bent down to pick up the cleaning pipe for the sax, which he used before putting the saxophone away. Didn't want to tarnish the instrument, and spit was the enemy. He also unsnapped the mouth-reeds and put 'em away in their own special case. While he was doing all this, Lily had ample time to reflect on whether or not she really wanted to have any breakfast. But why wouldn't she? Val'd probably even pay for it -- he was a gentleman.

Lily had no need to rethink her decision. She was a little too trusting, sure, but she felt comfortable with Val and had no problem going out to eat with him. They were friends now, right?
With a shrug, she caught a leaf sticking out of her hair and grimaced. Ugh. Well, she must look like something that got dragged through the forest and then dropped in a river. Oh, well. She plucked the leaf from her hair and blew it off the palm of her hand, letting it flutter to the ground in an interesting spiral.
"When'd you learn to play?" she asked, nodding towards his saxophone. She'd always been challenged in the area of instruments. She could sing a bit, but other than that, she was hopeless. She just enjoyed listening.

"I was pretty young," Val replied, with his trademark smile. Nice. He seemed at perfect ease with the morning light and the morning air. Bad things just didn't happen in the morning light. It was one of those universal rules. "Nine, maybe? There was a spell I'd read about and I wanted to try it, but it required the ability to actually play an instrument. Well, that's how I convinced Mom and Dad to finally give in and get me the sax anyway. Really? I just wanted to be a rockstar. What about you? Do you play an instruments? Or are you just a dancer?"
And of course now that he was all packed up, he was leading Lily to a place he really enjoyed going to for breakfast. It was south o' the border food -- best TexMex ever. Hopefully she wasn't a Vegetarian, although there would be some good Vegetarian food too...

Lily grinned at the story. "I tried to learn the violin when I was younger. Let's just say no amount of spellwork in this world would help me learn an instrument. It's just not my forte. Dancing is about the only thing I can do music-wise."
As Val led her to the Tex Mex, she made no complaints, though she did say, "I have to admit, I've never been here before. Do they have vegetarian stuff too?"
It wasn't that she was opposed to eating meat and the like, she'd just never had the stomach for it. She didn't know why, but meat always just made her sick. It could have had something to do with her being Earth, of course, always wanting natural foods and stuff like that.

"Dancing is enough," he says, with one of his quiet smiles. Really, Valentine's smiles were completely open; just a little touched by something that could be shyness, but definitely was not, becasue Val isn't shy. It's a good smile. He just can't help it. "And much more practical for most magical workings. All you need is your body; your body is your tool. You can do a lot with dance. And it's fun, too, of course." He winks, a good natured rogue.
To her question about food? "And, sure. Try the 'Texas Caviar'. It'll wake you up and warm you up -- oh," and he pauses, frowning. "Do you want a sweater from my car?" Because Lily is still damp from her dunking in the fountain.
This early and it's a miracle the place is open, but Valentine has always had a nose for food. Good food, that is. And little local places, the type of places tourists would never find.

Lily smiled brightly. It seemed she was just full of smiles lately, even though she knew things couldn't be so good all the time. But she was a naturally optimistic, and happy person. She just couldn't help it, and she absolutely adored Val. He was so nice!
She bumped shoulders with him, and then spun around him briefly in some sort of dance that caused the trees to sway along with her, and said, "A sweater would be lovely. Thanks!"

When she spins around him, Val chuckles (o, sweet spontaneous) and the sound is copper and shadow. Then he notices the trees, and his silvery gaze goes wide with consternation. "Lily." Beat. "The car's not far. I've got something in there." Beat. "What if somebody were to notice what you were doing? Don't they teach you caution where you're from?"

Lily shrugged, glancing around the street as people passed by. "I think it would take a pretty smart person to realize that my dancing and the trees are connected," she said after a pause, but she did stop dancing. See? She could be obedient! "Most would think it's the wind or something. Sorry, though. I'll be a good girl, if I can help it."

"Or somebody who knew what to look for, but meant harm," Valentine says, still the stern and responsible older brother, but his eyes soften at the corners when she stops dancing and he looks -- well. He looks sorry that she did, despite his warning. He slips his hands into his pockets, the instrument case at ease against his thigh. Musicians, they knew how to handle weight.
"Look, I'm sorry. It's just -- I've been told I can be overprotective and a stick-in-the-mud. Here we are!"
Val's car was a piece of junk. It ran, though. Which was all that mattered.

"Well, I'm a pretty good runner. And unless I come up against another Old Power, I might be able to beat them down," Lily said with a cheeriness that just did not seem to fade despite his stern attitude. "Well, probably not... I don't really like to hurt people. But I'm also afraid of dying, so I'll do what it takes to... I'll just stop on that line, okay? Heh."
She ran a hand through her hair, a sheepish grin on her face. She was the picture or pure embarrassment. "Anyhoo, I like your car! It's got personality. I don't have a car, myself, so I wouldn't complain anyway."
