My past, my future, my disease Perhaps collapse to make me seize A moment just a breeze Greatful, humble I allow These words to be the past somehow I wonder Am I here now Am I here now I feel, hear, see and it confuses me I am wrong I am here now Is mine I'll take it all around the world Take my future past, it's fine But now is mine
My precious present, will you bloom To make this fourth dimension womb Stop asking. Stop asking why All I know is all I am Will never fully understand my breathing I try, how I try to feel, hear, see and it confuses me I am wrong I am here now Is mine I'll take it all around the world Take my future past, it's fine But now is mine
Lily felt a small smile touch her face as she nervously fixed the corner of the picnic blanket for the tenth time in a minute. An assortment of foods and desserts were spread in front of her, leaving a small amount of space around her to sit. She'd taken great care to find a nice location, an old golf course turned wildlife and nature preservation park. Deep in the trees where no one would see them and they could have a peaceful date. She'd bought all the food after saving up from work and then carefully set it all out.
She didn't know if Rui would enjoy such a picnic outside. It was just the only thing she could come up with, and had wanted to do something nice for him, and she had presents. Ones that she was embarrassed about giving. And a picnic was something she was used to pulling from all the ones she'd forced Air into in the past life. She'd pulled him to meadows, to spanses of trees, to beaches, to hot springs, all because she'd been trying to show her affection but hadn't really known how.
And now.... now all there was, was to wait for him to arrive. And hopefully he wouldn't be a grump, but even so, she'd still love being able to see him, to spend time with him after all this time.

Rui was in a very peculiar mood today. It was this mood that prompted him to float through the forest, inches from the soft mossy floor. The aura around him was soothing to the animals, who went about their daily business instead of fleeing. The air today just felt right.
They were having a picnic, he knew, even though she hadn't told him why he was meeting her out here in the forest. It was just like old times, and his heart swelled at the thought. This picnic being a date opened up a million possibilities about their past. Had those been dates too and he'd just been to ignorant to see it? Probably.
It was this more than anything else that prompted his mood today. It was almost as if it wasn't a date between Rui and Lily as much as a date between Maelstrom and Terra ((mos, you mentioned this name earlier, if this isn't the one you want, feel free to change it..)). The recovery of a lost time, one where they could be together as they wanted. Rui felt as if Air were guiding his movements, but this was different than their past interactions. Before, it had been one or the other, and today the two were working in a beautiful unison.
Today there were none of the pusillanimous thoughts that usually burdened his mind. He felt free, and he reveled in the feeling. The only thing, he knew, that would send his spirits even higher was Lily's presence. He was already starting to feel the first tendrils of her verdant energy weaving into his own blustery power. Soon, very soon, it would all come together for one glorious day.

Lily could feel the faint brush of wind and power as Rui approached and froze. Was that..? Was he...? He was in a good mood! Grinning despite her previous nerves, she found herself elated at that realization. Why was she fussing when he apparently was happy to have a night with her? That would be just stupid. So it was with this thought, and an answering joy, that she smoothed out the skirt of her sundress and leaned back to wait for him to come upon the scene. She'd taken a lot of time and effort into it all. From the grown ivy that entwined the trees, outstretched towards the blanket to the many, many foods she set around. And then her bag which held a small but meaningful present within. She'd even worn a comb in her hair. And a touch of embarrassment returned as she patted her hair self-consciously. A fine, silver and intricately woven hair comb. That was millenniums old. She wondered if he'd remember.

Rui drifted through the forest, smiling serenely about anything and everything. Tonight was going to be special, he knew, but he wasn't exactly sure why. All he knew was the feeling he had that something was incipient in the air.
Finally, he came to the grove where she had prepared their date. It was beautiful. The moonlight seeped through the leaves, dappling the capacious area with silvery light. The food looked nice as well, but as he felt himself inexplicably pulled forward, the thing that caught him, the thing that made him sigh in a contentment and recognition so deep it was almost painful as he scooped her into his arms-- that thing was her hair comb.
It was woven out of moonlight, and wind and leaves, made especially for his sister whom he loved more than anything. His heart almost stopped as he looked down upon Lily, whose hair was gleaming in the light from her comb, and whose eyes were sparking...and he kissed her.
There was no hesitation in this kiss, no questions. This kiss was one that brought them so close that their elemental selves sighed in happiness. Rui felt his soul merging into hers, felt them becoming one entity for that short time in the moon.
Finally, he was home.

As he scooped her up into his arms, there was no hesitation for Lily to respond. They no longer had so many obstacles. They didn't have to worry just at that moment. Everything was just.... perfect. Just the way she'd always wanted things to work out, the way things she'd wanted it to be when she'd dragged him off all those times in the past and had always been too cowardly to do anything else.
Her hands clenched into the fabric of his shirt for a brief moment, unsure, and frozen by pure, unadulterated happiness. And then slid around his neck, holding him as tight as she possibly could. A part of her felt like if she didn't he'd slip away. That something bad would happen or this had all just been a deluded dream. But another part of her, a bigger side, just didn't want to let him go because of all the missed times of the past. It was that part of her that was feeling all the same things that he did, and it would have been an overwhelming thing had she not wanted it.
This was how it was supposed to be. How it should have been, darn it.

With the combined surrender of their bodies, Rui felt Air leave him, pulling Earth with him to rest just above the two of them, mingling and merging in a dance of blustery verdant energy that hummed through the trees, in the air. This- This was the halcyon night that he had dreamed of for so long, this was the canorous melody that he had longed to feel.

Lily pulled back just hair, slipping a hand into her bag and quickly pressing a small box into Rui's hand before ducking her head down on his shoulder.
"I got it from the Nightworld Archives," she said softly, voice hoarse. "Broke the building down to get it, but.... I wanted you to have it again."

Rui opened the box, still reveling in the ebb and flow of of their combined powers. Maelstrom and Terra still danced above their heads, caught in a dance that they'd been denied for centuries. Inside, was a simple necklace with one small metal feather hanging from a leather cord. The sight of it almost brought tears to his eyes. His necklace..She'd made it for him...all that time ago. No time was wasted as he put it back on once more, smiling like a fool.
"I...Thank you." he said simply, pulling her in for another kiss, and once again feeling the Earth explode around him.
Minami had searched for her for years, and after that for weeks. Finally, he'd found her here, in this peaceful little grove, protected by a powerful bubble of mixed energy. His mother. Not the mother that he had in this life, no, but the one who really mattered.
At the edge of the grove he stood, waiting. He was sure they would be done soon, and he could enter their little piece of sacred land. Looking around curiously, he saw several dazed looking animals also standing in wait. Drawn to the power within, yet shut out from it. His heart went out to the poor confused creatures. Soon, very soon everything would be how it should.

Lily was just as into the kiss as before, but then she had the strange feeling that they were not the only two there any longer. It was a feeling of something bad, and yet unbelievably good about to happen. A sense of familiarity and power that she knew, but just couldn't... place.... couldn't remember.
With a perplexed expression she pulled back. Hesitant. She didn't want to go too far from Rui. Her Rui. But there was something there, and she just couldn't ignore it. It was like a missing piece of a puzzle that had once been so important to her.
Glancing over to the trees, past the ivy, she only saw the dazed animals at first. Her expression, while still perplexed, gained a gentle touch. She adored animals and felt her heart go out to their confusion. And then she saw a boy of their age, one who looked a bit like Rui, actually. But that was where the familiarity came from.
She opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out. What she needed to remember was bad, she knew. Something that was secret.... but both good and bad. What was it?
And so she just gazed up at him, confused and seeking. No words could be found.

Rui feels Lily pull away from him, looking confused, and lets his eyes follow hers. First to the animals and next to the boy. There's a strange tugging of recognition, but he can't place it. He raises an eyebrow in question, but the boy isn't looking at him, he's looking at...Lily.
"Mother?"
He feels the bubble of power pop in a sense, and the essences of their past selves rush back into them, causing a rubber band effect that flings them apart from each other. From his spot on the ground, Rui lifts his head, and the front of himself with his arms, shock evident in his eyes, confusion marring the expression that was just moments ago one of perfect contentment.
Deep inside, he knew the truth of it. Knew that there couldn't have been another reason for her to stay in that awful place all that long time ago. No. He felt Air swirling deep down within him, down into the depths of himself in a maelstrom that was his namesake. He could feel the pressure building now, unable to - unwilling to - stop it. The depths of her duplicity cutting a hole inside him that might never be healed.
Mother. She was a mother. Obviously the boy didn't mean in this life. No, this treachery went so much deeper. Not as if you can blame her, a voice in his head sneered in his head, Obviously she found someone better than her own brother, the voice - which he knew was his own - said disgustedly. How could he have believed that she wouldn't want to be with someone else? Someone who wouldn't be so weak as to love their own sibling.
All this thought came to him in the long seconds of silence that it took for her to respond. It was all there in his eyes - In Air's eyes- the accusation, hurt, bitterness, anger and probably the worst of all, a grim acceptance. He knew that he should have seen this coming. He knew that he had absolutely no right to be angry or hurt. And that's what drove him over the edge. Though, after the acceptance, his eyes - a stormy grey - only shown numb. Devoid of feeling.
Inside, his emotions were tearing him apart. He didn't even take notice when Maelstrom took hold of his body, despair and agony riding him now. No more.
~
Minami felt the power dome burst, watched the two flung to the ground, and watched in confusion as the emotions on Air's face register. For he was sure that's who was with his mother. In the following moments, that seemed like an eternity, he watched as Maelstrom was lifted into the air by a wind so fierce that it cleared the scrub around where he had been moments before on the ground. Luckily, the wind only hit a small circle around Air, and not the entire forest. It looked to him like they would be in for a stormy patch for quite a while in Vegas.
A strangled cry drew his attention back to the figure still on the ground. His mother was still on the ground, staring at the spot where her love had been like the world was breaking apart.
((RPed slightly for ya there, but I figured that's what Lily would do so have me change it if it's wrong *tear for rui*))

The long silence? Was the remember. Those long moments, it was a wave of confusion, of images and old memories swimming through her head, until she finally remembered. Until finally her old self, the part that had been a mother, began fighting with the teenager she was now. And god, was there pain. And guilt. And then the conflicting joy at finally seeing her son again. Though that night with Light had not been something she wanted, she'd never regretted her son. She'd loved him as much as she loved Maelstrom, and that was quite a bit.
The nine months she'd carried him, and the night he was born, he'd been the only thing she'd had to hold onto in the past life. When she couldn't face her brother, her son was what had kept her sane. Kept her gentle and loving. But then the night of his birth, her parents had come and ripped him from her arms. She'd tried to fight, but the birth had weakened her. She'd had no way to keep him. For months after.... she had not spoken to anyone. Had hardly eaten. Never left her bed in the highest tower, even when she'd had no more tears to cry. It wasn't until her parents had forced her into a carriage, made her return home without her son... and that had been when she died soon after.
She hadn't seen her son, until now. And there was a happiness, at seeing him now. But Rui.... Rui hadn't known, he didn't know what had happened. And the looks.... the obvious rejection. The loss. It was a worse feeling now, to have him leave her, to not listen. It was heart-wrenching feeling, a twisting of her insides that made her feel as if she could not breath. It was such a sorrow that it even overshadowed her happiness at seeing her son. She couldn't move, couldn't think, and he was gone so fast that she had no way to fight back.
