There is one quite confused, quite determined and slightly scared witch sitting on a bench around the middle of the strip.
There is a bag on the bench beside her, her hair looks kind of ruffled and she is wearing the kind of expression that shows she may be a tree hugger but she’s going to defend herself no matter what thank you very much.
All in all a normal day for Las Vegas.
This particular witch/Old soul/vampire/hidden witch/Other (please specify) is named Laurel Quincey, definitely a good witch, definitely quite capable of taking care of herself and definitely out for the first time on her own.
Currently she’s just taking a break from walking around in circles, and thus is a little bit tired but still ready to run.
She’s not sure if there is anything to run from yet.
She really has no idea.

((Wasn't sure who to bring outta my bag of characters for this, but I thought her and Lily might get along well. )) Currently, Lily had her head buried in a stack of books, walking along the strip. It was her day off, and she'd decided that it would be nice to relax with a pile of books on a sunny day. Nice day for a walk. What books, you may ask? The oddest assortment, that no one but her was capable of connecting together. Many scientific books on storms, plants, trees, and a few on magical theory, mostly about Nature Magics. Then she'd found the oldest history books she could in an old Wiccan shop near the edge of the strip. The Harman store. She'd been hoping to find something to explain the dreams/memories that she'd been having. And that had in turn brought her to get books on dreams and reincarnation. There was even a book on Self-Hypnosis. So all in all, it was quite the odd and very heavy assortment.
An assortment that she was greatly emmersed in. With her headphones blaring, and her nose almost touching the pages of the open book on top, she didn't see the bench until she'd run into it, toppled over and hit the ground. Books flew in all directions. Her CD player skipped, skidded across the ground and popped open. The CD inside soared into the air and hit an unsuspecting business man in the back of the head.
Whoopsie daisy. Her bad.

(Heh ^^ the two earthy people should get along quite well) Laurel is by nature a compassionate soul, she’s one of those people who refuses to look the other way and will always try to look after everybody be they any species or any alliance.
This trait is apparently one of those traits that carries through even when Laurel has had three hours of sleep over the past two nights and has just been hit squarely on the elbow by a rather heavy book.
It’s either stupidity or compassion, both are up to debate.
So, she slips off the bench and trots over to Lily, a worried expression worming its way onto her face “are you okay?”

Lily lifted herself from the ground, only to wind up plopping back and sitting indian style. She needed a moment to catch her breath. Her face was a little scratched up, as her her hands and she'd skinned her knees as well. It stung a bit, but other than that she was okay.
Her face flushed in embarrassment, at having her supreme moment of clumsiness witnessed. With a sheepish smile she said, "I'm cool. Just a few scrapes. I'll get some bandaids later."
Well, not really band-aids. She just figured she'd find a secluded place and heal herself later. Little stuff like this was no big deal to her these days. She hoped one day she'd be able to work herself up to bigger stuff, but she'd have to figure out a training method for that. She didn't know, being so inexperienced with magic-type stuff, and having no one to teach her.

Laurel smiled in a faintly relieved way and crouches down besides the girl, critically looking her over just to check that everything is alright... The habit of a lifetime, the old nurse Laurel instincts flooding back again.
Finally Laurel nodded and brushed some drifting bits of hair away from her face, still smiling in her trying to be faintly reassuring way, with Laurel it usually worked.
"I could..." Laurel stops, bites her lip and then smiles even more brightly... In a way showing that she's not all that sure that there are any other witches outside New Salem, she hasn't exactly heard about the entirety of the Night World yet "sorry, I'm Laurel by the way."

Lily wondered what Laurel had been about to say, but decided over pressing the subject for the moment. "I'm Lily," she said. She went to extend her hand in greeting, but remembering the scrapes, thought that also wasn't a good idea. "Sorry if I hit you with anything. I need to learn to pay attention to my surrounding instead of having my nose stuck in a book all the time."

Laurel still smiled, she always smiled... Well, she tried to always smile because in her experience everything looks far better when you're smiling at it...
She's going to get on very well with Las Vegas, you can tell.
"Nice to meet you Lily, don't worry about it..." Laurel shrugged happily "I know a lot of people who bury themselves in books, honestly I'm used to it by now."
Well actually a lot of people are used to Laurel crashing into them or crashing into things around them... She fully understands what exactly it's like to trip over in front of several people... Even if she did have Diana around to protect her.

Lily couldn't help but laugh a bit. For some reason, she found she was very comfortable around Laurel and could sense a form of likeness in the girl.
Noticing the ever-present smile, Lily said, "You're not from Vegas are you?" It wasn't asked rudely, but merely an observation. She was so used to everyone around the strip in a foul mood, or being just plain creepy. Gambling did that to people. Even Lily found it hard to smile a lot these days, but that was for other reasons.

Laurel also found herself very comfortable around Lily, perhaps even more comfortable then around Diana and Melanie... Mainly because nobody in New Salem had been as dedicated as her to nature, they had respected her sure but they hadn't actually been all that committed to her cause.
She wasn't at all bitter about it, to be bitter just wasn't in Laurel's nature.
At the observation Laurel blinked and then shrugged again "Yeah, I'm from New Salem... just got here."

"New Salem? Lily said with a furrowed brow. "Never heard of it. Of course, I'm not too well-versed in Geography. Names of places, dates, stuff like that, have never really been my thing."
Upon seeing someone nearly step on her fallen CD player, Lily grimaced slightly, before forcing herself up and shuffling over to start picking up her stuff. She didn't know why she hadn't gotten to it sooner. Of course, she was a little lazy, and extremely forgetful.

Laurel shrugged again and let out a little giggle "don't worry... A lot of people have never heard of New Salem, it's extremely small... Not even on most maps."
It's clear that she's not all that bothered about that, Laurel was never one of those people who wanted to be in a famous place... she's only really here to look for Cassie and see if she's alright.
Which reminds her.
Laurel got up and picked up a few books, closing those that were open and trying to smooth out any rumpled pages "I don't suppose you'd know a Cassie Blake?" She asked casually as she held out about three books.

Again. Lily's eyebrows drew together in thought. "The name sounds familiar," she admitted slowly. "She might go to my school actually. I don't really pay much attention to the social goings, and we've had a lot of new transfers this semester. Big School too. But I think she was one of them, actually."
Grabbing the pile of magical theory books, she gently set them on the bench, thinking all the while. It was very rare that she was not in thought. "Let's see... The ones I can remember were a... Faye... Nick... Tommy-something or other... And yeah, there was a Cassie. I remember now! She's in my English class. Duh. Well, show's how observant I am. Geez."

Laurel's smile became more radiant and she nodded happily "Yeah, she used to go to my old school... Nick did too, and Faye... Or at least I think they did, Faye Chamberlain and Nick Armstrong?"
She's excited now, unsure but exited... At least Cassie's not dead or anything... Well Adam did say but it's nice t hear it for herself.
She's missed Cassie.
But then Laurel actually properly looked at the magical theory books and her jaw nearly dropped open, it's a common reaction when people start to realise about the Night World.

Lily started to nod at the names, but the jaw-dropping motion caused Lily to pause. Her eyes traveled to the books then back to Laurel's face and then back to the books... and so forth.
"Um, you're not gonna have heart-attack on me, are you?" Lily asked slowly, unsure of what to say to the reaction. She didn't really understand the reaction. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah don't worry I'm fine" Laurel bit her lip and glanced between the books and Lily again, a slightly odd expression entering her eyes.
Finally she just decided to come out with it "excuse me if I sound crazy but are you a... A witch?"
There, Laurel had never been all that good with keeping her thoughts to herself.
